The Reason why Dog Plague is Dangerous

Most people in the west and the UK love to keep dogs as pets, often treating them as part of the family. Their friendly nature and loyalty has no comparison. However, despite the close bond that is usually formed between owners and their pet, we still see one aspect of the dog’s health being neglected. That neglect relates to its oral care. Most people do not realize that their dog needs dental care and once they do, it is often too late or results in heavy financial repercussions.

It is essential that you take care of not only your dog’s diet but also pay attention to its oral hygiene. The bad news for your dog is that plaque can build up rather quickly in its mouth. It all starts with the teeth turning dark and after that the mouth will start smelling. But that is not all; sooner or later, it will result in gum disease. There are also many other infections that can come from plaque.  Some people may wonder why wild dogs don’t suffer the same problem. The answer is that they too develop this problem but not on the scale which domestic dogs do. This is because wild dogs have a diet which they obtain through nature. It contains plant of dietary fiber and other essential food items that help prevent dog plaque. On the other hand, the diet that is given to the dogs at home lacks many of these food items and often contains ingredients that a dog may not normally eat out of choice. This is the reason why domestic dogs are more vulnerable to this problem.

The potential medical complications do not end just with the mouth however. They go on to develop further inside the body. Hard tartar and plaque on teeth are especially vulnerable to the formation of bacteria and these accumulated bacteria can enter the blood stream. Once it enters the blood stream, the bacteria can cause massive damage. It can attack the internal organs of the body such as the heart, kidneys and the liver. In extreme cases, it can even lead to organ failure ultimately resulting in death. So, addressing the problem of dog plaque is a serious one which should not be ignored in any way.

If you love your dog, then you need to take the right steps before it is too late. Not addressing this problem at the right time may cause severe complications that can result in painful conditions for the dog and at times lead to death. The best way to avoid this problem is to take care of your dog’s dental health regularly before it goes on to contract dog plaque.
